Garmin Message Options

Freeform or canned quick status messages

On the Garmin, the driver can select “Create Message” and an on-screen keyboard will appear for him/her to type a message or The driver can select “Quick Message” and select from a variety of canned messages, ie. “Fred Starting Shift” or  “Fred Ending Shift”. This feature can be particularly handy when multiple drivers drive the same vehicle.  The historical trip information can then be tagged to the vehicle as well as the driver.

In either case, whether the message is canned or freeform, the message received at the office will show:

• a time stamp of when the message was received
• the name of the vehicle that sent the message.
